Shandaken Eagle
THE SHANDAKEN EAGLE

How ironic it is that this awesome cast iron eagle now perches in an area where the majestic Bald Eagles have made a spectacular comeback from near extinction! Be one of the fortunate ones - come see for yourself as the eagles soar above the Ashokan Reservoir and the Esopus Creek in The Catskill Park. This bronzed iron eagle on Route 28 at the entrance to Phoenicia was one of 12 that graced the old Grand Central Terminal Station in NYC. Don Quick from Architectural Iron Company, who has restored 2 of the original eagles, states that all eagles were exactly alike except for the direction of the head. Thanks to the generosity of David McLane, this eagle was adopted by the Town of Shandaken in 1985, where it would be seen in this highly visible location and enjoyed by those driving by.
